Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) – Farmington, MI

We are looking for a meticulous, dedicated Industrial Hygienist to ensure our employees’ occupational health. The Industrial Hygienist will assist AKT Peerless to resolve health issues by identifying risks, and by implementing policies and programs to mitigate these. This position will conduct training and presentations to ensure employee awareness of occupational health developments, lead biological monitoring programs, effect corrective actions and halt operations where necessary.

Job Description:

  • Assists with Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs) and site investigations.
  • Assists with technical report preparation in the office.
  • Advising and collaborating with management to resolve occupational health issues.
  • Creating and executing studies to monitor and assess employees’ exposure to health risks, and to measure effectiveness of occupational health programs, policies and procedures.
  • Overseeing biological monitoring programs.
  • Assessing and analyzing research data, summarizing statistics and compiling reports.
  • Proposing and leading implementation of programs to protect employee health, and implementing ergonomics.
  • Conducting regular audits of programs.
  • Ensuring employee awareness of occupational health and safety concerns, programs and regulations by conducting training and presentations.
  • Implementing corrective actions and suspending operations if required.
  • Advising various parties on workers’ compensation claims pertaining to workplace exposures.
  • Maintaining current knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation.
  • Strong understanding of all applicable safety and environmental requirements identified in the CFR
  • Ability to execute any local and on-site regulations
  • Perform Ergonomic evaluations, daily surveillances and inspections of work areas
  • Ability to understand various safety and environmental hazards
  • Prepare safety assessments
  • Monitor for various Stressors (noise, airborne particles fumes etc.)

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelors in Science/Engineering or related field (Masters Preferred)
  • Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) certification.
  • Understanding of OSHA safety compliance.
  • 10+ years work experience in similar role.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proficient computer skills.
  • Outstanding people skills.
  • Proficient organizational skills.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks.
  • Michigan accredited Asbestos Building Inspector.
  • Experience planning strategies with clients and mentoring staff.
  • Experience with project invoicing.
  • Updated 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER training.
  • Accredited as a Management Planner.
  • Completed the NIOSH 582 Fiber Counting Equivalency Course.
  • Proficient knowledge of relevant laws, policies and procedures.
  • The position requires a minimum of five years of safety and industrial hygiene experience with CIH certification required. (CSP Certification also desired)
  • Working knowledge of OSHA Construction Industry standards.
  • Experience in the fields of construction, demolition, remediation, asbestos abatement, lead abatement, lifting & rigging, ergonomics, noise, scaffolding, and/or air monitoring
  • Experience in radiological and environmental decontamination and decommissioning fields a plus
