Brownfield Redevelopment of Middle and High School Campus in Saginaw, Michigan
The Riverfront Campus Redevelopment project, spearheaded by Saginaw Future Inc. for the School District City of Saginaw, aims to demolish existing structures and construct a new high school campus to accommodate approximately 1,200 students, complete with modern educational facilities and sports amenities. This initiative seeks to address the challenges of aging infrastructure and inadequate physical spaces for contemporary programming, thereby enhancing the educational environment and stabilizing student enrollment trends. Supported by a $1,000,000 brownfield grant, the project focuses on environmental remediation of the site, which has a history of industrial use that has led to soil and groundwater contamination with various hazardous substances. The redevelopment is part of a broader effort to provide equitable facilities and opportunities for students, funded through a $61,315,000 allocation from the School District City of Saginaw’s 2020 Bond.
AKT Peerless is involved in the Riverfront Campus Redevelopment for the School District City of Saginaw as a project consultant. As project consultants, we are responsible for environmental assessment activities and the identification and assessment of environmental concerns within the project footprint. AKT Peerless will also assist in addressing the environmental due care and response activities necessary to prepare the property for redevelopment.
The continuing goals of the Riverfront Campus Redevelopment project are to provide the necessary support for equality within the school district’s facilities, curricular and extracurricular offerings, and to enhance programming. The project aims to address the aging infrastructure and lack of physical spaces that currently limit the school district’s ability to support modern programming. Ultimately, the goal is to increase and stabilize student enrollment trends by creating a high-quality, state-of-the-art learning
environment for the Saginaw community.
