Guardian Industries, Michigan Locations

Regulatory Compliance Solutions for World's Largest Plate Glass Manufacturer at Various Locations in Michigan

Guardian Industries

THE PROJECT

Guardian Industries, the world’s largest plate glass manufacturer, operates numerous facilities throughout the Eastern United States. Among these facilities were a few that did not have dedicated environmental management staff. Guardian Industries retained AKT Peerless to audit and implement a program to efficiently bring these facilities into compliance with environmental regulations. These facilities included a plate glass specialty manufacturing operation, a corporate airport hangar, a division corporate headquarters facility, a fiberglass foundry operation and a plate glass foundry.

AKT Peerless worked with Guardian Industries’ legal counsel and other functions to create a two-year program to effectively and efficiently bring all facilities into full regulatory compliance. The program encompassed hazardous material storage, SARA Title III compliance, asbestos operations & maintenance, storage tank compliance, worker right-to-know, community right-to-know, RCRA compliance, effluent sampling, POTW compliance, storm water compliance, Form R reporting, aircraft de-icing management, air permitting and contingency planning.

Our Role

AKT Peerless worked closely with Guardian Industries internal leadership to implement these compliance and reporting initiatives to their satisfaction, successfully achieving full compliance within the two-year target period. AKT Peerless also assisted Guardian Industries with achieving regulatory compliance of underground storage tanks (USTs) at both the fiberglass and plate glass foundries, which included developing a schedule for UST upgrades, removals and closure where needed.
