THE BACKGROUND

A comprehensive facility decommissioning plan for a former paper mill and power house.

THE PROJECT

In January of 1813, sixty American soldiers gave their lives defending our country. AKT Peerless worked with the Port of Monroe to Decommission a power plant and paper mill that were abandoned on the same site. A Hazardous Material Survey and Site Characterization Investigation was completed and was used to develop a Facility Decommissioning Plan.

Our Role

The decommissioning activities achieved both CERCLA and RCRA closure allowing the US Park Service to take ownership of the site. Today the site is a National Battlefield Site honoring the Fallen American Soldiers.
